Older King coilovers may have an o-ring between the stop nuts. This practice is obsolete.
O-rings are no longer available, needed, or used.

Replacing the stop nuts does requires removal of the shock top cap.

King Coilover Stop Nuts (also called "crossover nuts" or "jam nuts") are threaded on a coilover cylinder and used to stop the movement of the plastic coilover slider to force a transition from the combined spring rate to just the lower spring rate. Two stop nuts are used per coilover and tightened against each other to hold them in place by using of a flat head screwdriver and a hammer. PR series stop nuts are machined from aluminum and clear anodized and Race Series (RS) stop nuts are made of steel. They do not need to be replaced during service unless they are damaged.
