Important Vehicle Specific Notes and Recommendations

Chevy Colorado ZR2 trucks are very impressive trucks right off the dealership lot with a tremendous amount of suspension travel in stock form. That said, the factory Bilstein DSSV shocks have proven to be unreliable, under-performing, and very expensive to replace so the best improvement you can do is replace them with a set of King 2.5 shocks from Filthy Motorsports. There are a also few very important tips we have to keep in mind for this platform:

1. The front suspension on the ZR2 is already set to what would be about 1.5" of lift over a stock Colorado so the limit for good performance and ride quality is an extra inch above ZR2 stock height. Lifting the front end more than 1" will reduce performance and negatively affect CV shafts, steering linkages, and control arms.

2. Aftermarket upper control arms are beneficial to allow a better alignment at maximum lift and will also allow for an additional 1" of suspension travel at the tire so the investment is well worth it in our opinion.

3. 4 cylinder and V6 gas and V6 diesel engine options significantly change the weight of the front end and need to be accounted for when determining the proper front coilover springs, especially when additional weight like bumpers, winches, skids, and dual batteries are part of the build.

5 of 5 Worthwhile and then some! July 3, 2023

Working with Ben and the team to get what you need, for an off the shelf product that they then tune to your driving habits was great! They were thorough in their questions, and delivered a phenomenal product in a timely manner. The ride is the best I’ve experienced from a truck.
Anyone with a ZR2 knows that the shocks are failure prone, expensive, and non-serviceable. It’s illogical to go back to the DSSVs. These will last, and when they need repair (because entropy exists,) they can be repaired. Thanks to Filthy for the support and excellent service!
