Important Vehicle Specific Notes and Recommendations

The Land Cruiser 120, Prado 120, and Lexus GX470 are the same platform as the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser making them extremely popular for daily drivers, weekend wheelers, expedition use, and even desert racing. Each of these applications require different suspension attributes and Filthy Motorsports works directly with each customer to make sure the spring rates, valving, and overall configuration of the suspension is in line with their needs and expectations. With that in mind, there are a few important things we need to consider when building a well tuned suspension system:

1. The front suspension geometry allows for 9" of wheel travel which is leveraged to just over 5" of movement on the coilover. For the best performance, the coilovers should be set close to mid-shaft or about 1.5" to 2.5" over stock height. For added movement, aftermarket upper control arms (UCAs) can be used to allow for an extra 3/4" of down travel when the coilovers are built with the extended travel option.

2. Do not use coilover preload to lift the vehicle over 2.5" above average stock height. The factory geometry works best at 2" over stock and lifting it beyond 2.5" will cause the CV shafts, steering linkages, tie rod ends, and control arms to run at excessive angles that will reduce ride quality and component life. If you want more than 2.5" of lift and excellent performance, you will need an aftermarket lift kit.

3. The stock length rear shocks are only good for up to 1.5" of rear lift maximum. For rear lift heights over 1.5" and/or the use of 2" bump stop spacers to clear 33" / 285 tires, custom length rear shocks are needed. See the video below for more details.

4. GX470 models with KDSS and 1.5" or more of rear lift require rear KDSS spacers. Front KDSS spacers are not needed with King coilovers.

5. For GX470 models with air ride rear suspension, we recommend a coil spring conversion for more consistent ride quality, better performance, and more suspension travel. The ride height control system can easily be disabled using the switch on the center console.
